Creation Notes: Frank Stella began 'Juam, state I' in 1991 during the creation of his series of prints 'Imaginary places'. The work was editioned in 1997.
Materials & Technique: prints, relief, intaglio colour relief, woodcut, etching and aquatint printed from one assembled plate comprised of one carved plywood base with 66 irregularly shaped elements (one honeycomb aluminium plate, 24 copper plates, one bronze, four aluminium and 14 brass poured elements, 22 aluminium rings) and two magnesium plates on handcoloured paper Support: hand coloured, white, wove, handmade, TGL paper

Collaboration with the artist on original collage and supervision of the project by Kenneth Tyler. Papermaking by Tom Strianese and Robert Meyer. Magnesium plate preparation by Swan Engraving. Cutting of plates by John Hutcheson and Strianese. Proofing and edition printing by Hutcheson, Strianese and Nancy Bressler. Copper plate preparation and processing by Anthony Kirk. Woodblock carving by the artist assisted by Tyler.
