Snowy Owl 2001 Materials & Technique: sculptures, hand-crocheted lambs wool over plastic
Louise Weaver’s Invisible bird isn’t quite invisible is it? Weaver is interested in how animals transform themselves within an environment—for example, the skin or fur of some animals can change for winter or summer.
See how Invisible bird has been transformed from a hoopoe into a sequin-covered creature so that it will be at home in an art gallery. Snowy owl has also changed in some way. Can you see how these materials have been used to make this owl into a different creature from what we would see in its natural habitat.
Activity: Make a small sculpture out of clay in the shape of a bird. Transform your bird into something special by adding sparkly materials to its body or covering it in coloured thread.
