To illustrate the individual / animals from the score, the artist drew two printing plates for each / edition. One drawn on copper, printed in a selected color used con- / sistently for each edition, one drawn on plexiglas used as a border / plate which was hand inked by the artist for each impression pulled. / The series combines the intaglio techniques of etching, aquatint, dry- / point, engraving, soft ground and lift ground. Before printing, the / artist used pigmented pulps and liquid dyes to color each 23" x 26" / waterleaf sheet of handmade paper created at the workshop's paper- / mill. Coloration of the paper varies widely from impression to im- / pression. / The edition of twenty consist of nine Artist's Proofs, one Right / to Print Proof, one Printer's Proof and one Archive Impression. / There are State Proofs, Trial Proofs and Color Trial Proofs on all of / the editions and these are described on the individual print documenta- / tion sheets.
