Edition Notes: One of 18 unbound unsigned framed pages from 'This is not a book'. Papermaking by Tom Strianese and John Hutcheson. Proofing and edition printing of copper plates by Anthony Kirk, Brian Maxwell, Christopher Creyts, Kimberly Bursic and Todd Elkin assisted by Nancy Bressler. Pochoir stencil making and stenciling by Tyler. Proofing and edition printing of aluminium plates by Lee Funderburg, Hutcheson, and Tyler. In its complete editioned form, 'This is not a book' is an original 36 page book made from 9 folded pages. The book consists of 9 colour intaglios, 2 colour lithographs with lettering and half title and full title pages, plus colophon, copyright page, and five pages of text printed in lithography. The "Apologia" and "Notes" were written by the artist. The images were printed from 37 copper plates, 4 pochoir stencils and 16 aluminium lithography plates. The text is set in Adobe Caslon.

My tools included: drypoint needles, scrapers, burnishers, eye droppers, basters, liquid thinners, stop-outs, tusches, brushes, sponghes, tissues and fingers; even a heartylung-full of my breath exhaled over a puddle of diluted ink. The process became a movable feast of copper plates from New York to my Stamford, Conneticut studio and eventually back tho Ken Tyler's workshop.
After I worked on the plates, weeks later Ken presented me with positive and negative proofs both in black and sepia, and sheets of mylar. He had a logic to this choice in terms of what I might do with the proofs: in giving me both the black and sepia pulls, he naturally assumed I would use these proofs and mylar as references to make corrections to my etched plates.
