Creation Notes: Robert Motherwell began collaborating with Kenneth Tyler on 'El Negro' in 1981. The book was editioned in 1983.
'Night arrived' was started on the 18 January 1981. The RTP was printed on the 27 November 1981. The print was finished on the 13 January 1982 and the plate was cancelled on the 14 February 1983.

Edition Notes: Lithograph printed on chine applique in one colour: black. Text (verso) printed in two colours: black and grey. Robert Motherwell prepared the nineteen lithographic images in 'El Negro' on Mylar and acetate sheets using Paintstiks, grease pencils and alcohol tusche which he applied with brushes and a bamboo pen. The images were transferred to aluminium plates by Lee Funderburg. The plates were printed by Funderburg and Roger Campbell on a flat bed offset press. Papermaking by Steve Reeves and Tom Strianese.
