Lithograph printed on chine applique in one colour: black. This image is the seventeenth image in the portfolio. Robert Motherwell prepared the nineteen lithographic images in 'El Negro' on Mylar and acetate sheets using Paintstiks, grease pencils and alcohol tusche which he applied with brushes and a bamboo pen. The images were transferred to aluminium plates by Lee Funderburg. The plates were printed by Funderburg and Roger Campbell on a flat bed offset press. Papermaking by Steve Reeves and Tom Strianese. The 'El Negro' poem was written by Rafael Alberti (with translation by Vincente Lleo Canal) and offset printed, Spanish in black and English in grey. The introductory preface was written by Jack Flam.
