Creation Notes: Robert Motherwell and Kenneth Tyler collaborated on 'El Negro' from 1981 to 1983. 'Mourning' was started on the 8 of February 1981. The RTP was printed on the 13 of Februay 1983.

Edition Notes: Colour lithograph printed in three colours: black, ochre and red. Robert Motherwell prepared the nineteen lithographic images in 'El Negro' on Mylar and acetate sheets using Paintstiks, grease pencils and alcohol tusche which he applied with brushes and a bamboo pen. The images were transferred to aluminium plates by Lee Funderburg. The plates were printed by Funderburg and Roger Campbell on a flat bed offset press. Papermaking by Steve Reeves and Tom Strianese.
