Dale Chihuly began to explore the traditions of Venetian glass in the 1980s, working alongside its master glass blowers. This work is from a series made in response to that experience in which Chihuly exaggerated the stylistic language of traditional Venetian glass almost to the point of satire. With its discordant orchestration of pattern, colour and composition of blown elements it brings a different energy to the vase form through Chihuly’s showmanship and bravado with glassmaking.
