The movie star: David Gulpillil on Bondi Beach by Tracey Moffat featured in an exhibition in 1986 of photographs by Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander artists.

David Gulpillil, star of the 1971 Australian film Walkabout is shown lying across the bonnet of a car at Bondi Beach. His pose, clothes, tribal face paint, beer can and ghetto blaster are the desirable accessories favoured by the youth of modern Australia.

As Moffat said to the press, ‘It is a typical Aussie pose. Why don’t Aboriginals have the right to relax in the manner other Australians do?’
