Title Notes: The Karo Batak people live in the north of Sumatra, in the hilly region north of Lake Toba. By the beginning of the 20th century the Batak regions were under the authority of the Netherlands. Many Batak communities, notably the Toba Batak and Karo Batak, were christianized. The Bataks form the largest protestant community of Asia.
