This work shows Tagliapietra’s glassblowing skill at its most eloquent. Its swelling form with attenuated neck is an expression of the nature of blown glass, incorporating Tagliapietra’s characteristic drawing using traditional Venetian latticino and filigrana techniques as irreducible elements in its design. Tagliapietra made this work in Canberra, using Australian-developed glass with his own coloured glass in a design that acknowledges the glassmaking traditions that are part of his heritage.
