Richard Whiteley explores space through voids and solids, manipulating the light-transmitting properties of glass. This cast disc is ‘built’ from a sliver-edged and slit-like void, with material density, volume and colour intensity increasing towards its rim, where the coarse marks of the cast are deliberately left visible. This strategy heightens the tension between the work’s defining edge and the polished concavity of its interior, resulting in a work of commanding, yet subtle presence.
