Titled lower centre below image in pen and black ink and red watercolour, '_"MEDUSA"_'. inscribed verso upper left to centre right in black pencil, 'This design might be redrawn with / as more of the snakes (32 in all) are / enough, but at present I cannot [illegible] / time. / [illegible] register [underlined] these designs when referencing the / for were they to go astray they would be / me, as these two G1 + G3 are originals [illegible] / + I have not [illegible] a tracing of these'.
