Primary Insc: stamped on upper surface of inner platform: "[indistinct]/[indistinct]/[indistinct]/[indistinct]/[indistinct]" stamped on lid of inkpot and inside two inside compartment lids: "J.B/lion passant/m"
Secondary Insc: pierced and engraved coat of arms on lid, to left of front: "[demi-lioness bearing anchor and unidentified item over a shield with monogram 'SAH/JUNE 4th 1867' over ribbon engraved with motto 'FIDE SED CUI VIDE'" pierced and engraved coat of arms on lid, to right of front: "[demi-lioness bearing anchor and unidentified item over a coat of arms with three stars and a fish over ribbon engraved with motto 'FIDE SED CUI VIDE'"
