  • Resourcefulness in solving the problems of shortages of material developed as a characteristic of Australian life through the 19th and 20th centuries. Those in rural areas, while distant from ready supplies of commercially-available building and furnishing materials, found innovative ways to recycle the packaging materials that contained essential fuel, food and other commodities that were regularly delivered to them.
