Thinking about life is made up of 69.1 portraits of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander men. 69.1 years is the average life expectancy of an Indigenous Australian male in Australia today. Several of the men and boys portrayed have already passed away. Aird has had a long career as an art historian, curator, archivist and photographer. The roots of his work lie in researching Indigenous historical photographic archives and records. This includes an exceptional archive of family photographs owned by his extended family that in many ways provides the foundation for much of his work. His interest in photography can be traced back to his family also: his grandmother made photographs in her kitchen at night and it was from his mother that he learnt photography.
