Primary Insc: not signed. Dated and titled lower centre of backing in pen and black ink 'Gold Escort Melbourne 1852'.
Secondary Insc: Inscribed upper left of sheet in black pencil '3 abreast'. Inscribed lower right of sheet in black pencil 'all with little straw hats/but... (illeg) drivers with a cap'. Inscribed verso of backing lower edge in ink 'The men of Escort wore little straw hats, and red shirts or jumpers./The drivers wore caps covered with white.'
Tertiary Insc: Inscribed verso of backing upper left in black pencil, 'AU19'.
