There is a modesty to Adams photographs that belies their great poetic sensitivity and compositional sophistication. He was one of the ten photographers included in the 1975 exhibition New topographics: Photographs of a man-altered landscape in which curator William Jenkins sought to articulate a new way that photographers were working in the landscape tradition. The impact of human presence is recorded with such dispassion, a gravity and respect, that articulates the complexity of our relationship with land.
