Primary Insc: Signed and inscribed lower left in pen and black ink, 'William Strutt del./ Paris / Poche, a favourite model at École des Beaux Arts, he afterwards became the concierge there'.
Tertiary Insc: Inscribed in another hand, lower left in black pencil, 'Horace Vernet approved of this figure', and in the same hand lower right in black pencil, 'Ecole des Beaux Arts. Paris.'
