This sheet comes from a sketchbook that Constable used in 1829. Day has suggested that the lightly sketched in figures may be playing rounders (Harold Day, John Constable RA 1776–1837: Drawings, Eastbourne: Eastbourne Fine Art, 1975, p. 81).
