In this series, Rrap acted out imagery from paintings by the Norwegian artist Edvard Munch in an investigation of the stereotypical depiction of women in art and, more widely, in society. The title alludes to psychiatrist Carl Jung's notions about different aspects of our personalities, those we show to the world and those we keep private. The procedure of restaging, collage, over painting with oil stick and rephotographing becomes part of the final image, laying bare and transparent the art-making process. It imparts to the images a personal and intense subjectivity, mitigating the voyeurism of the originals, though the result-Rrap making her body conform to a form inherited from history-is deliberately unsettling.
