The traditions of African art, humour and bizarre imagery from the world of contemporary animation are influences that define Jenny Orchard’s ceramics. She was among the first in Australia to realise these ideas in ceramics through the use of slip-cast white clays, intense bright glazes and patterned surfaces. This figurative work combines animal and vegetal imagery ‘evolved’ into bizarre forms suggestive of mutations and genetic engineering.
